Interview

Thank you for being on Aly’s Rockin’ Romance Reads! Can you tell us a bit about yourself and your work?

Hi I’m Rachel Nicolson I’m 34 and from Blyth Northumberland. I have 4 kids and a crazy husband. I write military romance and currently have two novels and a novella out. Something about our military clicks with me.

How long have you been writing? When did you become a published author?

I have been writing for a long time but was never brave enough to publish anything until my cousin told me I had one year to publish The Fight To Remember he passed away before the year was up so I published it and dedicated it to him.

What is your writing ritual?

I don’t think I have a ritual I just write when I feel I need to I’m not trying to publish a book every few months because that’s just not me.

How long does it take you to finish the first draft?

It could take me anywhere from 6/7 months as I said before I just write for me and at my own very chilled pace.

What is your latest published work?

Her Delayed War was my last release which was published on the 8th April last year.

Can you tell us about your current WIP?

Oh my WIP is totally different from what I normally write. This is a second chance romance and involves a beautiful songwriter and a writer for a magazine. It’s definitely a work in progress but it is exciting to write.

What is your favorite female character you’ve written?

I love all my main females but I would probably have to pick Jodi Emery the lead in Her Delayed War as that book highlights PTSD and all its forms.

Favorite male character?

Cole is my favorite male his books are The Fight To Remember and The Fight For Them. He’s a beautiful, scarred ex-soldier who has to fight for his rights to be him and live his life.

If you had to list one of your biggest/weirdest quirks while writing, what would it be?

Don’t know if this is a quirk but I make people read odd chapters while I’m editing so say the first chapter then chapter 10 then chapter 3. My betas think I’m crazy I don’t mind haha.

Do you listen to music and/or make a playlist while you’re writing?

I don’t tend to make a playlist but I do sometimes mention different songs throughout my books. I also don’t often listen to songs when I write I tend to have the tv on or a kids film so I can write when the kids are around.

Who are your favorite authors?

Traditional author would have to be Joan Jonker who before she passed away wrote books based around Liverpool during the 2nd world war.

Indie authors, I have a few: Ker Dukey, Jodi Perry, Kathryn Andrews Xavier Neal to say but a few.

What inspires you to write?

I’m an avid reader and always said if I could have one book on my shelf with my name on I would be happy I now have 3 but still love to get the words down.

Where do you interact with your readers the most? (i.e. Facebook, Instagram, newsletters, etc.)

Facebook would be the main one I do have twitter and instagram but I’m pretty useless with social media

Can we stalk you? (hey, at least we asked nicely!) If so, please provide your Amazon, Goodreads, and social media links.

Thank you so much again for being here! Any advice to aspiring authors before we let you go? (we know you’re busy!)

The only advice I can give is to write for yourself first don’t ever feel like you have to be the same as everyone else.
